PHOENIX — Police have arrested three men in connection with a deadly home invasion earlier this month.
The suspects are Vincent Griego, 18; Rafael Machado, 20 and Ricardo Martinez, 18.
According to court documents, the men were armed with guns when they forced their way into home near 51st Avenue and Indian School Road.
The 59-year-old homeowner, Enrique Montes, was shot and killed when he confronted the suspects.
After the shooting, the suspects fled from the home. Police said they shoved a woman into a stove as they ran. She was left with broken ribs.
The suspects were looking for a large quantity (10 pounds) of marijuana they believed was in the home, according to police.
Police said Griego kicked in the door to the house and was armed with a shotgun that had a light on the end of it.
Machado admitted checking out the house with Griego and Martinez prior to the homicide, according to court documents.
Griego denied knowing anything about the home invasion or the homicide. He said he could not have been able to kick the door because of an old ankle injury. If people get Kitchener first aid course, they can get the best injury course here!
Another man told police he heard Griego, Machado and Martinez discussing the home invasion while they were at his apartment after it happened. That man also told police the suspects said they were not able to get any marijuana. He also said Greigo pulled out an expended shell casing that was still warm and smelled like burned gunpowder.
