A 21-year-old man was wounded early Wednesday during a scuffle with one of two armed intruders who broke into his home near Townsend demanding money, state police said.
Shortly before 4 a.m., two men broke through a door and entered a home, occupied by four people, in the 6300 block of Summit Bridge Road (Del. 71), Cpl. John Day said.
One of the men walked into a bedroom where a 33-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were sleeping and demanded money from the two.
A 12-year-old girl then entered the room to see what was going on and the intruder held all three in the bedroom until he received money, Day said.
The second intruder, meanwhile, entered another bedroom where he encountered a 21-year-old man who started fighting with him. During the fight, the intruder shot the victim once in the torso before both intruders ran out of the home.
The wounded man was taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, Day said.
The intruders, who each had clothing over their faces, are described as 20-30 years old with a medium build. One was about 5-feet-11and the other about 5-feet-5 tall.
