It used to be that you could divide the country into three distinct areas- “downtown” inner city cores, surroundings suburbs and vast stretch of rural areas dotted with small town. But over the last 30 years, central cities and suburbs have expanded and melded into metropolitan sprawls , composed of bedroom communities, small towns, strip malls and large malls. and a variety of commercial centers that often blend with residential areas. Houston, Texas, for example, has three downtown areas with high-rise buildings and skyscrapers, and a surrounding urban sprawl that includes industrial right next to residential residential zones which include trailer parks, condos and traditional house-per-property subdivision. All of these factors can come together and make up for the residency safety levels in the area.
