Resident Safety
There are gangs in every city of the United States. If you think for a moment, you can likely name a few streets or neighborhoods in your town where gang activity occurs. Being aware of these areas, staying out of them, or moving to through them quickly may safe your life . In addition, if you know the (MO) of gangs, you can avoid certain dangerous situations and extend your resident safety. Let’s talk a bit about what the attraction of gangs is for those who join them, what characterizes their behavior, and why they would go out of their way to hurt innocent people.
Many gang members have poor self-esteem. They feel that they’ve never had anyone who cares for them. They have witnessed so many murders occurring in their neighborhoods that violence and killing seem to be a routine part of life. Gang leaders attract members by providing protection from this everyday reality. They will offer money to recruits or buy them new clothes to try and show them they care. The prospective member sees this as a “way out” and accepts the family atmosphere of the gang without realizing that it is all trickery, and that the leaders only want to grow their gang’s size.
After joining, the new recruits are required to commit criminals acts as initiation before becoming fully recognized members. It’s important to prove to themselves to their peers, and they may do so by carrying out a random drive-by shooting, firing indiscriminately into a crowd, or committing more targeted crime involving a specific victim to rob, rape and or kill. All these factors can compromise your resident safety. Because they did not have fine things growing up, new gang member are easily convinced that they should take revenge on those who do have those things. Something else you should now is that gangs thrive on fear.
