As I am writing this chapter, on of the two men who committed a particularly horrific home invasion in Cheshire, Connecticut in 2007 in undergoing trial. The case received national media attention-again in part because of the random, terrifying nature of the crime. According to a confession of the defendant, he and his partner only planned to orb the house, but “things got out of hand.” So much so that they severely beat the doctor who owned the house (he was the only survivor), and sexually assaulted and killed his wife and two daughters. The incident even shocked the lawyers fighting sexual charges. The two men were caught fleeing the scene after they set fire house to burn the evidence.
