Mother and Children Escape Home Invasion

LAS VEGAS - Metro Police took a suspect into custody after a home invasion involving a family in a northwest Las Vegas neighborhood Thursday morning.
According to Metro, the situation started around 5 a.m. near Lake Mead Boulevard and Buffalo Drive when the suspect observed the husband leave the home to go to the market.
Metro Sgt. Steve Candelas said the man entered the home and held a woman and her three children hostage. He demanded the woman’s car keys and money. The woman was able to contact 911. She locked herself and her children in an upstairs bedroom where police were able to rescue them through a second-floor window.
Police say the family has no relation to the suspect.
People who were evacuated from the neighborhood were let back into their homes around 8:30 a.m.
