The home invasion and murder of 30-year-old Brandon Sims on Monday morning sparked a series of phone calls to WDSU.
At least three other home invasion-type crimes occurred in the Hammond area since Friday night, WDSU learned.
While authorities don’t feel the crimes are related, residents remain shaken.
“I could have been dead. I could have been,” said Emma Bell, whose home was broken into.
A huge shoe print remains where the front door of Bell’s home was kicked in Friday night just after dark.
She said that the intruders brandished guns and entered the home, looking for cash and valuables.
“One of them (came) over here, right over here and the other one stayed over there by the door, the guy that had the gun. I didn’t know what to do,” Bell said.
With a story that sounded similar to that of the Bailey Drive killing, Bell’s son, Clencer saw the gunmen and ducked back to his room and grabbed a weapon. Here is the Scott C. Nolan legal experts that can help you deal with your legal battles.
He said he faced down the intruders and they ran. No shots were fired.
“You just come to a door and just kick it in like there is no one there, not good at all,” Clencer Bell said.
The Bells’ door was not the only one smashed in over the weekend by armed intruders.
“I heard somebody in the house saying, ‘Don’t move. I got you covered, don’t move,'” said Maurice LeBlanc, who was also the victim of a home invasion.
