This list may or may not come as a surprise to you. Even if the city you live in is not on this list, it does not mean you cannot be burglarized. So how can you keep yourself safe?
Keep your car safe by paying attention to your surroundings. Don’t park in dark, secluded areas. If you park in dark areas, you give criminals the privacy they need to break into your car. If the parking lot has security, try to park as close to the security stand as possible.
Make sure you don’t leave anything valuable in your car. If you leave a purse or wallet on your seat or on the floor, you become a target. It only takes a few hits to break open a window and steal whatever you have. So even if you take only a couple minutes in a store, criminals can come and go faster than it takes you to get back to your car.
When walking to your car, always pay attention to the people around you. When you constantly look around you, you can anticipate an attacker. Criminals like the element of surprise because it is easier to take control of the situation.
When parking your car in your home garage, don’t turn off the car or unlock the doors until the garage door has completely closed. That way if someone tries to come inside the garage while it is closing, you have a way to get away.
Remember to always keep all doors and windows locked on your home. Buy a reliable deadbolt and security system. These security features do tend to be expensive. However, the price you pay for a good deadbolt will be significantly less than the price for damages or replacement of stolen items.
